When you are in that really shallow water, could you not carry a longer piece of wood with you to use as a pole for piking? It seems like you could propel yourself better that way. You could either tie a line to it and let it float behind you when you are in deeper water or just abandon it and pick it up again when it washes ashore.

Please dont get me wrong, but I notice that a lot of people in the States and Australia, NZ, Japan fileting fish. Here, in the Med, we mostly cook or grill the whole fish, without gutts, ofc. It makes less waste, you have more to work with your fingers, slowly eating and digetstion. Greetings from Croatia
